Moa London. Balmy over green.

Moa London. Balmy over green.

Ah Moa. This brand is everything I feel green beauty should be. Fun, fresh, exciting and with a whole heap of personality. Charlie, the founder of Moa is a beaut. She has created some cult worthy status products that everyone needs to know about, so I really wanted you to get the lowdown on her, the brand and why she is so amazing.

What is MOA and why did you set it up?

MOA is a British natural skin care brand which harnesses the therapeutic powers of yarrow, a herb used for centuries across the globe for healing.  We started with original product The Green Balm, a simple recipe with organic yarrow extract, tea tree and 100% natural ingredients, it can be used for all manner of beauty and first aid ailments. My daughter suffers with eczema, so making a balm which calms, soothes and nourishes dry itchy skin conditions was very important to me, our newer products are also very therapeutic.  MOA create products which are natural, affordable and effective, but also conjure up a little magic and folklore along the way…

Why should people choose natural/organic beauty products?

The skin is our largest organ and so it’s important to treat it with care and nourish it with wholesome ingredients. Many products contain harmful ingredients which over time can be carcinogenic, lead to health problems or sensitised skin conditions, it’s quite scary. If you’re applying something everyday you should feel confident that it is safe and healthy for the skin, I believe organic and natural products are just that.  Many of our customers prefer our products because they have sensitive skin and cannot use products containing chemicals because they flair up and react.

What advice would you give to people who are new to natural/organic beauty?

Go for it! There is a whole world of wonderful natural products out there which are more eco for the planet (they are often cruelty free and consider more sustainable options for ingredients and packaging) and won’t load your skin with chemicals, artificial fragrances and colour. Organic ingredients tend to be more effective and therapeutic. I would say however, that although natural products are generally less reactive for sensitive skin types, it is still important to test which products work for you, as your skin may not like a particular ingredient.

Do you have a daily beauty routine, and if so, could you share it with us?

It is very simple, but my skin feels balanced since using a balm cleanser.   I use Daily Cleansing Ritual in the morning and massage the face with the bamboo cloth to stimulate lymphatic drainage and to tone too. Hot water then removes impurities and the balm residue. After that very simply, a few drops of Aphrodite Facial Oil which is light and easily absorbed, it has a rosehip base which really nourishes and I love the gentle scent of rose geranium and Damask rose.  I also use a mist toner sometimes and an aloe vera sun screen on my face too.

What is the best piece of beauty advice you have ever been given?

Drink lots of water!

What are your top 3 favourite beauty products?

Enchanting Nail Polish by Little Ondine

Can you share some top tips on glowing from the inside (Wellness) and out (skincare & cosmetics)?

If you eat lots of wholefoods, drink lots of water, herbal teas and stay away from processed food as much as much possible you will be making your body very happy and not only will you feel healthier and happier, but this is bound to show on the outside too. But don’t beat yourself up if you have an unhealthy day, enjoy it and be healthy next time! Life is about balance. Being active and finding an exercise that you genuinely enjoy is really important for mind and body too and taking time out away from computer screens to read, have a bath, do some yoga, go for a walk, whatever it may be will definitely improve your wellbeing.

What is the most exciting beauty invention you have seen this year?

Little Ondine nail varnish, it’s natural and it peels off so no more chipped nail polish – genius!

What are your plans for MOA in the future?

Our small team have been making some new potions, so lots of hard work ahead drawing the illustrations, designing and making the finished products, we have to be very patient as it all takes so long from start to finish!   All our new products will be vegan.

This year we’ve done some lovely collaborations with makers and creators and looking forward to more exciting promotions and events. We have a stall at The Big Festival end August (Jamie Oliver and Alex James’ festival) so spreading the word about The Green Balm and all its uses for camping!  We’ll also be exhibiting at Top Drawer this September, which is an amazing hub of talented designers. We’re very happy to be selling with lots of independent retailers across UK, these local shops are very important to us and we’ll be supporting their businesses as much as we can.

Sentences to finish.
