There is a special place in my heart for anything that comes from the emerald isle. My parents are from there, a great deal of my family live there and I love Mikado biscuits. You can find these in the Ireland section of your local supermarket. Marshmallow and biscuit and jam = heaven. ANYWAY. It was only natural when I came across Lucy Annabella Organics and that they were an Irish brand, I wanted to find out what they stood for and why Colleen had created her product range.
I was lucky enough to try some of the products recently and was absolutely blown away at the smell, feel and result of the them, I really did feel like I had been given the four leaf clover of skincare products. All I needed to do was find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and one of her candles would magically appear!
Colleen started Lucy Annabella Organics in 2011 and since then has won nearly every award out there for her amazing skincare and body range. They are Soil Association certified which I absolutely love, smell heavenly and they are luxurious as well as organic. It’s hard to find something that can encompass these three traits and Colleen has excelled at creating something amazing. Their essentials oils are carefully sourced from around the globe, brought back to Ireland and crafted into the products that you can see on their website. The production methods have won accreditation’s from the Soil Assocation and the Aromatherapy Trade Association and you really can tell from the quality of the products how much hard work and care has gone into every single thing. So I wanted to spend some time asking Colleen about herself, her tips and tricks and what her wonderful world of beauty looked like.
Introducing, the fabulous, Colleen Harte.
What is Lucy Annabella Organics and why did you set it up?
The story behind Lucy Annabella is very simple! I decided to create the brand when I realised that ‘being organic’ is as much about what we put on our body as what we put into it. I am a Complementary Therapist and a Clinical Aromatherapist and I have been an organic health enthusiast for years. Through my work I lived by the ethos that ‘Our health is paramount to our happiness’.
So in 2011 after travelling all over the world in search of knowledge and the finest ingredients from organically dedicated farmers I felt the time had come to actively combine all aspects of my life’s loves and pursue my passion to formulate and blend beautifully organic ingredients and share them with the world.
The beautiful name Lucy Annabella was my sweet grandfather’s fond pet name for me. ‘Lucy Annabella’ has great sentimental attachment for me and it sits close to my heart therefore I knew it was the perfect name for my cosmetics.
Why should people choose natural/organic beauty products?
The average woman will expose her larger organ, her skin to over 200 harmful each and every morning. This is a really scary statistic and not enough women are aware of it. I believe organic beauty is essential if we want to protect our body and preserve our skin. Young women now starting to buy skincare need to be educated that organic are the only way forward. If we can teach this to the youth of today we will have succeeded in protecting their skin and their health.
What advice would you give to people who are new to natural/organic beauty?
Start simple, find Soil Association certified brands and learn about their mission as a company and if it fits your needs and desires as a beauty buyer then begin to use their products. Like any brand you will have favorites. Learn to appreciate nature again and you will love the benefits of harmful chemical free skincare.
Do you have a daily beauty routine, and if so, could you share it with us?
My beauty regime I very simple. I was wash my face every morning night with a simple cleansing oil that I make myself. The base is made of 30mls of Organic Vegetable Oil, 9 Drops of Organic Lavender Essential Oil & 9 Drops of Geranium Organic Essential Oil.
My favourite products is our own Argan and Bergamot Organic Treatment oil I use this every morning to awaken my skin and senses and I use Papaw ointment throughout the day for. Once per week I use OGARIO London hair mask for conditioning and shine and lastly our Graceful Organic Treatment Oil for my facial oil, this really is an amazing product, so pure and unadulterated.
What is the best piece of beauty advice you have ever been given?
My wonderful clinical aromatherapy teacher once told me to add essential oils to every beauty product I use as it will add a therapeutic level to support and protect my skin, which standard products don’t offer. In this advice I am at a huge advantage in that I am skilled in essential oils but it is still much fun blending just for me.[Tweet “being ‘organic’ is as much about what we put on our body as what we put into it”]
What are your top 3 favourite beauty products?
Can you share some top tips on glowing from the inside (Wellness) and out (skincare & cosmetics)?
I believe that organic and wellness has to come from inside and treated from the outside. I have created Lucy Annabella as our outside solution but in terms of from the inside; I eat a most Paleo diet avoiding dairy and wheat completely with very limited sugar and alcohol. I also juice vegetables each morning and practice yoga a few times a week while also getting some fresh air into my lunch with a great brisk walks. I believe being healthy and well is a lifestyle not a diet or sacrifice.
What are your plans for Lucy Annabella Organics in the future?
I am currently in product development mode; this year is going to be a very busy and exciting year. We are currently working on a Hand Cream and Lip Balm, Range. I love development from choosing special scents for my fabulous customers to putting my creative head on for packaging design and marketing.
Sentences to finish.
