What is your blog and why did you set it up?
I’ve been writing Jen’s Green Skincare for almost two years now, oh how time flies! I wanted to create a space where I could gush about things I’d been enjoying; my friends and family were just not ‘getting’ why I was making changes in my life and I knew that there was a wider community of Green bloggers that understood this and I wanted to be involved with them.
Why should people choose natural/organic beauty products?
For me, I think this comes down to understanding what is in all those products lined up in Boots. Once you start educating yourself on ingredients, why would you go back to using products that are potentially harmful, proven to irritate, aggravate and exacerbate skin? Why would you take the risk?
It means you are taking care and protecting not only yourself but the environment too. It does not mean that you are settling for less.
What advice would you give to people who are new to natural/organic beauty?
It may seem like a minefield and you may have to try a few different products before you find one that works for you (deodorant and shampoo being two biggies to get right!) but it’s worth it.
Also remember that going natural/organic doesn’t have to cost the earth. There is so much choice available to you so work out what is important to you (it may be that you want to avoid a specific ingredients, or want your products to be Vegan) and go from there. Sites like Being Content and Naturisimo allow you filter searches to make it easier to find what you’re looking for.
Do you have a daily beauty routine, and if so, could you share it with us?
Cleanse, tone, serum/oil and cream – always with an SPF. My routine currently looks like this…
What is the best piece of beauty advice you have ever been given?
It’s not advice so much but being introduced to the wonders of coconut oil was a serious game changer for me.
What are your top 3 favourite beauty products?
Bodhi & Birch Neroli Lucé Facial Oil – Like any blogger, I like to see what else is out there but I always return to this wonderful oil. It makes such a difference to the look and texture of my skin. It is my Holy Grail product.
Coconut Oil – Organic, raw, cold-pressed. This stuff is the shizz. Cleanser, make up remover, hair mask, moisturiser. You name it, this wonder oil can do it.
Avril Mascara – I was introduced to this through a SoukSouk box almost two years ago now and I’ve re-purchased over and over again. It does everything I want a mascara to do and whenever I try a different brand, I always compare it to this. I wear it daily so that makes it a firm fave!
Can you share some top tips on glowing from the inside (Wellness) and out (skincare & cosmetics)?
The right food, exercise and plenty of water will nourish and support your body from the inside and out, giving you a glow that no fancy £120 cream will give you!
To a certain extent, I think choosing to go natural on the outside goes hand in hand with being healthier on the inside. If you are concerned about what you are putting onto your skin, wouldn’t you also be thinking about what you are putting inside your body too?
What is the most exciting beauty invention you have seen this year?
This is a difficult question as I’m usually under a rock but I’ve really enjoyed the latest powder cleanser trend.
Why did you decide to set up GGG?
Now, this is a much easier question!
Last October, Sarah, Rach and I organised a little Green bloggers gathering. We put a pretty spectacular goody bag together and as we were speaking to brands, a couple of them offered to come and speak to us face to face. Whilst the October meet wasn’t the right time, it got us thinking about organising an event and here we are!
What are you most looking forward to about GGG?
I AM SO EXCITED! I’m really looking forward to hanging out with some wonderful, inspiring brands and some equally wonderful and inspiring bloggers. I’m excited to hear more from some of my favourite brands and geeking out over testing products.
I hope it’ll be a fun day for everyone.
Sentences to finish.
I love natural beauty products because…my skin has never been healthier. It has never looked as clear, as bright or as toned as it does now.
If I could tell my 20 something self, one piece of beauty advice, it would be… wear SPF Every. Single. Day.
My favourite beauty quote is…Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself- Coco Chanel
My favourite beauty resource is…blogs! Plus the EWG Skin Deep database.
To relax I…love to take my make up off, get into my PJs with a mug of Yogi Choco Spice tea and settle into a good book.
