Coconut cleansing is a favourite of mine. It was only fairly recently that I discovered it and literally fell in love after the first time of using it. The smell is heavenly, it effectively removes my make up (even waterproof!) and my skin feels soft as a baby’s bottom rather than parched like the sahara desert when my face has dried. It does occasionally make your eyes a bit blurry for a few minutes afterwards but there is no stinging, no watery eyes and I don’t mind walking around a bit blurry eyed for a bit!
When buying coconut oil, aim for unprocessed, virgin coconut oil because this is as close as it gets to its natural state and won’t have any chemicals or nasties in it. After that, you may as well go and get yourself a lovely pair of coconuts and take the oil out yourself! The oil comes as either a liquid form or solid form that melts in your hands so it’s up to you which to buy.
For acne sufferers out there – oil dissolves oil. Don’t worry that you’re going to get worse skin because you are using an oil cleanser. Something to note though: sometimes acne prone people get milia (teeny weeny white spots around the eye area) when using coconut oil, so test it out first and see how you feel.
If you are suffering from spots then feel free to mix a couple of drops of tea tree oil in with the coconut oil in your hands and then start using circular motions to add onto the skin. Once all of the make-up have dissolved then use water to remove. You might also want to use a muslin cloth, natural sponge or bamboo cloth to ensure all dirt has been taken off before drying your face on your nice white towel!
