Since I started as a full time blogger last year, there have been some changes that I’ve made to help with my clean beauty routine, my mindset and my life which have been super helpful so I thought I would share them with you. It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post like this because I’ve been putting so much energy into my YouTube channel so have kind of neglected my digital queendom a little bit. For some reason I think that the art of written word has been lost slightly because everyone wants to watch videos, but maybe I’m wrong, so let’s see. I love writing and it comes naturally to me, so I’ll try and add it to the list of things that I must do, instead of the ‘should’ list and never get round to.
Let’s start with clean beauty. Clean beauty, natural and organic beauty, green beauty, the list of names to call this niche by nowadays as a blogger is growing. I think maybe clean beauty is the one to stick to for the mo but let me know if you resonate with anything else. When I got back from New Zealand, my skin was in a pickle. I was trying so many different clean beauty products and I was not glowing like I ought to. You don’t realise the impact that bad skin has on your emotions until you look back at where you were and realise how far you’ve come. This is largely down to SkinOwl for me. I found a brand and products that worked wonders, like, literal wonders on my skin and I’m so grateful to Annie (the founder) for the advice, support and incredible products that she gave me, to help clear it up. If you’ve not seen my video on this, you can watch the collab I did with SkinOwl and Beauty Heroes a while back for the before and after shots. It’s pretty incredible.
I’m doing a shoot on Wednesday and can honestly say my skin has never been better. My scarring is nearly gone, my spots are pretty much nowhere to be seen and I’m finally feeling confident not wearing any makeup, and less like I want to put a paper bag on my head with some cut outs for my eyes. If you’ve ever had hormonal acne, then take a look at SkinOwl. It might just save your skin too.
A few other things that have fed into my clear skin also include my clean mindset and life I’ve been prioritising since moving back. I’ve always been a fairly healthy person (with a slight addiction to sugar) but had slipped on my mindset routine and clean living routine a tad. They ended up in the ‘should do but am not’ category for a while and when I moved back, I put them back in the ‘must do’ category. You see, when you switch something from a ‘should’ to a ‘must’ then things change. And when you decide you’re going to come up with an excuse for not doing what you said you would, try and change the wording to ‘it’s not a priority for me’ and see how that feels. If you agree that it’s not a priority then that’s cool, but if you get a funny feeling, then you need to pop the thing you’re not doing back into the ‘must’ category, because it really should belong there.
So that’s what I did. I put the gym and the healthy eating and lowering the sugar intake into the must category and I’ve never felt better. I’m by no means where I want to be (I’ve got some goals that I want to hit first) but mentally I feel stronger, healthier and fitter which is where the clean life and mind boxes are ticked.
Not only this but I took up meditation and visualisation again. I sometimes struggle with visualising what I want to happen because my mind goes off on random tangents constantly but I’ve been finding it super fun to play around with how I want things to look and feel in the future. It has been helping me refocus a lot with my blog and what I want to achieve with everything because I’ve been so busy that I’ve turned into one of those busy fools, who is running around doing everything, when I really should be checking to see if what I’m doing is aligning with my goals. So, as tempting as it is, I’ve been saying ‘no’ to a lot more things at the moment so I can make sure that I’m heading more towards where I want to be at by the end of the year.
I know we are only in July, but HOW, HOW are we in July?! Time seems to speed up so quickly and I can’t believe I’ve actually been back 9 months already. So much has happened and I feel so glad that I’ve written down my achievements (big and small) because it’s all so easy to forget them and get bogged down in the hamster wheel of running your own business and forget how far you’ve come. I’ve been seeing this quote doing the rounds on Instagram at the moment, but I think it rings true, ‘Remember when you dreamed of being where you are now?’ I remember this time last year, being so desperate to want to give things a go with the blog full time and being frustrated that I couldn’t. But look at me now! A fully fledged full time blogger, earning a wage, moving things forward and being excited for the future. I could barely dream of that last year and now it’s come true. Now don’t get me wrong, again, I’m nowhere near where I want to be and there are big leaps and bounds to be made, but I’m getting closer, finding my way and working out what is working and what isn’t for my life, blog and business.
This was never meant to be a ‘dear diary’ entry, but kind of has turned into it. All I can say is, if you’ve got a dream, dive right in. Do the things that other people won’t so then hopefully, if you play the long game, you’ll have everything you ever dreamed of.
So I’m keeping my beauty, mind and life clean. I hope you’ll join me in that journey too.
