Even if you’ve been graduated from your natural organic skincare course a while, READ THIS POST as if you learn just one tiny tip, then it’s been worth your time. There’s this idea that as soon as you’ve finished your course, you’re ready to set out into the world to get your packaging done, your website up and people will then flock to you, because your family told you your formulations were great.
So you do all of the above and then….tumbleweed….#awkward.
So you start looking at what everyone else is doing who finished the natural organic skincare course the same time as you and start doing insta posts. Then you see someone else on Twitter, so you do a couple of tweets on there. And then you see someone talking about video, so you start thinking of ideas of videos to create. And then you hear about podcasts and the list goes on.
Before you know it, you’re overwhelmed, lost, confused and frustrated. SOMEONE HELP ME! (You can join the free facebook community so you’re not alone btw, doll)
So, let’s set a few things straight from the outset for you. After reading this, you should feel a little calmer, more planned out and also a tad excited to make things happen.

TIP 1: Think about the life you want to live in 5 years time.
So you finished the natural organic skincare course and are getting excited about the ingredients, the branding, the packaging, the name etc and getting into the nitty gritty of starting up your business. How exciting!
But do me a favour and start to think like a CEO from the beginning before you’ve even sold your first product. Think about your life. Your family, your friends and what does it all look like in 5 years time. Is this a side hustle or do you want a multi million dollar business?
Because if you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll surely get there. If you can get clarity, then everything becomes so much easier.
So let me ask you again, what does your life look like in 5 years time?
TIP 2: Think about the problem you’re solving from the outset
The natural beauty market is saturated. Adding another product to that world which isn’t different, doesn’t solve a problem that people have and might make a little difference but not a world of difference is a failure from the beginning.
If that sounds harsh, I’m just saving you a lot of time, money and effort right now because people don’t owe you anything just because you set up a business. If you’re not going to wow them with incredible products that really help them, then what’s the point? Why are you doing it in the first place? For the money? Because if you’re here just for that, then it won’t work.
This industry is HARD to break into. So again, start working ON your business and really thinking about the impact you’re going to make in people’s lives rather than always IN the business. It will help you move further faster in the long run. Trust me on this.
TIP 3: Figure out what you need to learn
When you start a business, it very quickly becomes clear that you have to have a formulation head, a marketing head, a logistics head, a finance head, a sales head and before you know it, you feel a bit frazzled with all of these different parts of your brain firing all the time.
There’s a very wise saying which I often think of which is ‘what got you here, won’t get you there’ and it’s so true. If you want to succeed, then you need to make sure that your ‘marketing head’ for example, knows what great marketing is so you can make the right decisions for your business. And the way to get there? Is to INVEST in yourself. You might be thinking ‘but I just finished investing in my formulations course!’ and that might be true. But you’ve now got to invest in the business fundamentals if you want to make this work.

And if your budget only allows for free content right now, then sign up to everything you can. But if you want to get to where you dream of quicker, spend a little more money so you can follow a framework and make the impact you want to. This happens all a lot easier if…
TIP 4: Don’t give up the day job just yet
…You don’t give up the day job just yet. If you think after launching that retailers are going to knock down your door to stock you, and you social media followers are going to go sky high after a few posts over the next two weeks, then chances are, you’ll be in for a rude awakening.
So take the pressure off yourself and look to keep the day job, or just reduce the hours whilst you work on your new business. Most people end up watching 3-4 hours of television each night, so instead of that, use even 1 of them to make some headway and learn what you can to effectively move the needle forward.
You might want to dive right in, but having that security when first starting out, makes a huge difference sometimes.
TIP 5: Believe in yourself
“Business is 80% psychology and 20% skill”. Tony Robbins quoted this a while back and given he has a net worth of around $500 Million and has numerous businesses which total a turnover of billions, I’m likely to listen to what he has to say.
So if the 20% skills is true, that means you should only be spending 20% of your time on formulating. The other 80% should be spent on mindset, business and marketing to ensure that you become the success you want to be.
YOU’RE the only one who can make your ideas happen. No one else (even your parents, children or husband) knows what you can achieve, except you. So show them what’s possible. Use your time wisely, because it’s the most precious resource that you have is time. Learn what you need to in business and marketing to get yourself out there. To show up. To join in. To build relationships. It will be the best thing you ever did.
So get smart. Get time wise. And make your natural beauty brand visions a reality. I know you can and I can’t wait to watch you do it.
