I think it’s fair to say, discovering new and incredible brands that are doing super exciting things, is really rather fun. And when the owner is an awesome person as well as totally inspiring, you kinda get a girl crush. This is what has happened with me and Sara Quilter (me getting another girl crush, that is). Sara is the founder of Tailor Skincare which is a natural brand of blinkin’ uh-mazing treats for your face that everyone should be finding out about. She is totally gorgeous, has incredible skin and also has some mega nuggets of advice that you’ll find in our little interview below. Be prepared to forget all the stress, because after all, it gives you wrinkles. Introducing, the incredible, Sara Quilter…
What is Tailor Skincare and why did you set it up?
Tailor Skincare is a natural skincare brand which promotes skin health from a holistic perspective. We sell our products online and through a network of hand selected stockists. I started the brand after becoming very conscious about eating a healthy diet and began to question what we’re putting onto the body’s largest organ – the skin. I didn’t like what I found with many skincare products so began to formulate my own.
Why should people choose natural/organic beauty products?
Our skin is the body’s largest organ and is not different to any of your body’s other organs in terms of its needs for nourishment. We know it’s important to eat a healthy diet to fuel the rest of our body – so why would we be putting a number of harsh chemicals onto the body’s largest organ? It doesn’t make sense to me. We need to be feeding our skin with nourishing natural ingredients which help promote the skin’s natural function rather than disrupt it.
What advice would you give to people who are new to natural/organic beauty?
Be aware that there are many products which give the illusion of being natural, but actually contain only a small proportion of natural ingredients. The best thing to do is read the ingredients list in each of your products and keep an eye out for all of the ingredients on this list here: http://tailorskincare.co.nz/skincare-blog/how-to-avoid-toxic-chemicals-when-shopping-for-beauty-products/
Do you have a daily beauty routine, and if so, could you share it with us?
To be honest, I don’t and the reason is because my skin does different things depending on the temperature, the amount of sleep I’ve had, that time of the month, and if I’ve been wearing makeup or not.
If I was to give you a routine it would be: Oil Cleanse at night to remove make up and give myself a facial massage to help reduce under eye bags and swollen glands. I use Tailor Dry Cleanse every other day to gently buff and polish away dead skin cells, followed by Tailor Mist as a gentle toner. I’ve been using my brand new product a probiotic serum with active ingredients rooted in soil science topped off with Tailor Moisture and a small amount of Tailor Hydrate around my eye area to lock in the moisture. During the cooler winter months I switch to using Tailor Serum because in the winter my skin is more prone to dryness and irritation.
What is the best piece of beauty advice you have ever been given?
“Don’t spend your life stressing about the small stuff because it’ll show on your face” and “After all, happy girls are the prettiest.” Bringing your attention to this advice is important especially those times when you’ve got a million and one things happening. To be honest it’s a work in progress and the best way I deal with stress is a sweaty Power Vinyasa session.
What are your top 3 favourite beauty products?
Tailor Oil Cleanse
and the brand new Serum launching in June 2016.
Can you share some top tips on glowing from the inside (Wellness) and out (skincare & cosmetics)?
Getting stress under control is a big part of increasing your glow and the best stress relief for me is yoga. It’s also important to eat the rainbow. In my eBook, Danijela Unkovich and I talk about how to get glowing skin from the inside and out. The Holistic Guide to Complete Skin Health is available as a free download from our website: http://tailorskincare.co.nz/shop-products/the-holistic-guide-to-complete-skin-health-ebook
What is the most exciting beauty invention you have seen this year?
Not to blow my own horn, but I’m most excited about the release of our new product happening in June 2016. It’s a cutting edge anti aging serum with ingredients that are made with probiotics and rooted in soil science.
That’s all I can say right now, however if you’re keen to stay up to date with us then join our mailing list and we’ll send you weekly updates on our blog and all the goss about new products: http://eepurl.com/Im6G.
What are your plans for Tailor Skincare in the future?
We plan to continue helping customers achieve healthy skin by giving them holistic advice and products to support this advice.
Sentences to finish.
I love natural beauty products because… our skin is the body’s largest organ and we need to feed it with the best quality natural ingredients.
If I could tell my 20 something self, one piece of beauty advice, it would be…stop smoking and thinking that you’re bulletproof, because you’re not. Take care of yourself and your skin so your 80 year old self will thank you for it.
My favourite beauty quote is…I think happiness is what makes you pretty. Period. Happy people are beautiful. They become like a mirror and they reflect happiness. – Drew Barrymore
My favourite beauty resource is…Tailor Skincare blog – or Dr Libby’s book “beauty from the inside out”
To relax I…Do yoga, body surf and cook deliciously healthy food.
Wowsers. What a fab hit of inspiration to look after yourself. On that note, I’m off for a bath and to do a little meditating! Thank you so much Sara, you’re a true glow getter.
