“Organic phytonutrient plant extracts are in our skincare”. I’m sorry, what is in your skincare?! This was my initial thought when speaking to the lovely Tracey Foy from Mel Millis at an event. It sounded a tad ridiculous and a bit of a marketing fad. My face evidently said it all and it wasn’t the first time Tracey had had to explain herself on this matter. “OK, so phytonutrients are thousands of organic chemical parts that are found in plants and they are amazingly rejuvenating, repairing and detoxifying, and they have been extracted through a patented process with cutting edge technology.” Mind. Blown. Using plant alchemy (chemistry to you and me), Tracey’s very special way of using all of the goodness from the plants rather than only parts of it mean her products are potent, high performing and, of course, luxurious. So I wanted to introduce this fabulous, award winning skincare to all of my lovely glow getters, so you could learn a little more about this fabulous brand, lady and what her top beauty tips are. The fabulous, Tracey Foy…
What Is Mel Millis and why did you create it?
Mel Millis Phytonutri Skincare is a performance led, luxury skincare brand based on pure plant synergy. It combines Far Eastern principles and proven scientific research to infuse the skin with the purest and most potent mix of bio-actives, peptides and prebiotics all needed by the skin to stay healthy, combat the ageing process and protect our skin from environmental stress. Our plant alchemy uses a certified organic, cutting edge, patented extraction process which enables us to use every part of the plants precious phytonutrients and infuse them into our skincare.
Mel Millis Phytonutri products are alcohol free, untested on animals and free of parabens and any other harmful chemical ingredients.
Mel Millis was founded from a journey of exploration which took me across 2 continents and 7 countries.
Whilst living in the Far East I experienced that it’s a normal part of life to connect with nature and embrace the natural ingredients that surround you and incorporate these into your everyday routine. It wasn’t until my return to Europe and falling extremely ill (I was diagnosed with cancer in 1999 and underwent 2 major operations) would I really be aware of the values of these principles and how important natural ingredients were to maintaining a healthy wellbeing inside and out.
My first step was to create my own routine based on the principles I had been taught. People started asking what I used on my skin and how I maintained my general wellbeing I started to realise I could make a difference for others too. It would then take a further 7 years of research and work in the organic industry before I launched Mel Millis Phytonutri Skincare. It was important for me not to deliver just a skincare range that contained only the purest certified organic, natural ingredients but one that contained ingredients that had been scientifically proven to work.
In 2014 Mel Millis Phytonutri & Phytonuri Qi launched with Re Energise, Rebalance, Revitalise forming the basis of our skincare with wellbeing at its core. We have since gone on to gain 6 awards, the most recent being the highly coveted Best Luxe range at Natural Health International Beauty Awards 2015 and Winner of Best Face Tonic at the Beauty Shortlist Awards 2015. All of which we are extremely proud of.
Why Should People Choose Natural/Organic Beauty Products
Historically organic, natural beauty products could only be found hidden away in dimly lit corners on a bottom shelf somewhere with a reputation for ineffectiveness. This thank goodness is no longer the case. The scientific advancement in creating wholly natural products with highly effective formulae has fuelled an array of credible natural organic skincare companies creating amazingly effective products and wonderful bloggers like you doing their utmost to raise their profiles and help raise consumer awareness of the benefits of lessening our exposure to synthetically derived ingredients and the scientifically proven dangers of using them.
What Advice Would You Give To People Who Are New To Natural / Organic
Do your homework and learn to read those labels. Natural doesn’t always mean natural and organic doesn’t always mean organic. When paying a premium for an organic natural product you should expect organic natural ingredients in that product. Look for the content percentage of organic natural ingredients, i.e. Containing 100% Certified Organic Ingredients. If a company is being fully transparent about their product contents this should always be displayed. We list ours above our ingredient list and it is displayed on every product.
Replacing every product with a natural organic one can be expensive. Don’t let this put you off, replace as you go, or start by replacing the product you use the most. Even using one organic natural product can have a positive effect.
Do You Have A Daily Beauty Routine/ Could You Share It With Us
My daily ritual is to start the day by cleansing, hydrating and moisturising. I use our Daily Cleansing Oil first and gently massage it into the skin, working from the neck up before removing with one of our organic muslin face cloths, this acts to gently exfoliate the skin without being too harsh. I have extremely sensitive skin and I found these to be the only thing I can use on a daily basis which doesn’t cause me redness or irritation. I follow this up by spritzing with our award winning Mel Millis Rose Hydrolate Mist Tonic, used to keep the micro-flora of the skin happy and in balance. Whilst my skin is still damp I apply a pea size drop of Phytonutri Qi Sea Plant Jelly around the neck, across the cheeks and around the eye area before applying a Face Oil or Serum, dependent on the time of year or the weather conditions. On an evening I repeat the ritual incorporating the double cleansing method by using first the Daily Cleansing Oil to remove grime and makeup followed by our Phytonutri Qi Plankton Skin Remedy, which is a powder to paste cleanser, used as a multipurpose product it can also be used as a mask. It gently exfoliates and infuses the skin with natural enzymes and helps to restore hydration. Oh and I never leave the house without first applying a drop of one of our body oils to my pressure points to help me stay connected with the oils for longer.

My third has to be my Kjaer Weis lip tint in sensuous plum, after all a girl should never go anywhere without a brush of lip colour, just make sure it’s as natural as it can be!
Can You Share Some Top Tips On Glowing From The Inside (Wellness) and out (Skincare & Cosmetics)
I appreciate that not everyone has the time to take to connect with oils and aromas on a morning but at the end of the day always take time to remove makeup and pore clogging environmental pollutants from your skin. Even if it’s only five minutes, you can use this time to connect with the oils and their benefits, inhale the aromas and allow them to open up your senses. Not only calming, soothing and re-balancing in our hectic busy lives it’s the best five minutes of the day you will spend if you want to maintain a glowing healthy skin and a sense of wellbeing. I find this time invaluable for winding down and switching off from my inevitable busy day.
Don’t believe those that promise to make you look 20 years younger. Unless you’re prepared to go the surgical route! You can of course slow the process down by using natural / organic, scientifically proven, results driven skincare, in the knowledge that once absorbed into the skin it will benefit you inside as well as out.
What Is The Most Exciting beauty Invention You Have Seen This Year
It’s not a new invention but it was the massage bed warming pad I was recently fortunate enough to have introduced to me. It was truly a wonderful experience. I now wouldn’t have a skincare ritual performed on me without one.
What Are Your Plans For Mel Millis In The Future
I am very fortunate to be working closely together with some exceptionally gifted people to create a journey of exploration for those that want to connect with Mel Millis. We also have new launches in the pipeline which will incorporate our core well-being principle into the very heart of what we are doing, but it’s all very hush hush for the moment ssh!

If you could tell your 20 something self, one piece of beauty advice, what would it be... Adopt a good beauty routine now. Skins collagen starts to break down at the age of 25, you can’t halt the process but you can help delay the process, it’s never too early to start.
My favourite beauty quote is… “If you invest in beauty, it will remain with you all the days of your life” Frank Lloyd Wright – an American Architect
My favourite beauty resource is…My battered copy of Culpeper’s Complete Herbal.
To relax I… If I’m not in the office or in the lab you will find me in the garden. It’s the one place I find I totally switch off and think of nothing else other than pruning the rose in front of me or digging over that border. If I don’t have time to get in the garden then on go my boots for a brisk walk with my dog Truffles, she’s a chocolate Labradoodle. It’s a great way of clearing your head and putting everything back into perspective. It’s amazing how many problems have been solved on my walks when Mel Millis was first created!
